About Paul Stalteri....
|
 |
Paul
Stalteri played his first international match for Canada with the
Under-17 youth team on August 22, 1993. He has
remained a fixture with the National team ever
since. His
fondest memories with the Canadian soccer program remain
the success he and his U-20 teammates experienced in
1997 when they advanced to the second round in the U-20
World Cup, and of course winning the Gold Cup in 2000.
|
In Paul Stalteri's professional
career, he has proved to be a precedent setting
Canadian. On August 12th 2000 Paul made his
debut in the Bundesliga with Werder Bremen. He went on to score in this game,
making him the first Canadian to score in the Bundesliga.
His success continued on in the Bundesliga when Werder
Bremen was crowned Bundesliga Champions and German Cup
winners in 2003/2004. When we
consider that Werder Bremen is only the 4th club (in
Germany) to win the
double in the last 100 years, it makes that feat all the
more impressive. He is the first Canadian
International to win a major league title and hopes to
see another young Canadian follow in his footsteps
sometime soon.
