Friday March 4th

FC Bayern Munich vs. Werder Bremen Preview

Werder Bremen will unlikely receive a warm welcome when they visit FC Bayern Munich's Olympic stadium on Saturday March 5th.  The decisive game of Bayern versus Werder last season on May 8th 2004, ended in Werder sealing the Bundesliga title with a 3-1 victory over Bayern.  Bayern was down 0-3 after 35 minutes and this assault on Bayern's home soil has not yet been forgotten.

With both teams looking good in midweek German Cup matches, it should prove to be an interesting match.  A victory for Werder will keep them in contention for the Bundesliga Championship, but Bayern will likely seek to end those hopes with a revenge victory on their home soil.

Thomas Schaaf has welcomed back Frank Baumann and Ludovic Magnin after they suffered minor injuries, he is unfortunately still without striker Ivan Klasnic.  He has selected the 18-man squad for the match:  Reinke, Walke, Ismael, Stalteri, Pasanen, Fahrenhorst, Schulz, Davala, Baumann, Magnin, Ernst, Jensen, Micoud, Borowski, Klose, Valdez, Hunt, Zidan.

For all Canadian fans, the game will be televised on Fox Sports World Canada on Sunday March 6th (1 day tape delay) at 11:30am EST (8:30am PST).
