Werder Bremen 2

FC Valencia 1

Last night in the Weser Stadium, Werder Bremen beat Spanish and UEFA Cup Champions FC Valencia by a score of 2-1.

Werder Bremen gave up an early goal in the second minute of the game, but were able to net two more to defeat Claudio Ranier's side.

"These were three big points for us.  We know that we still have a lot of games to play, but it is definitely a step in the right direction" says Paul Stalteri

Seven cautions were given in the game, and also one double booking for Carlos Marchena who was sent off in the 55th minute.

Miroslav Klose leveled the match 5 minutes later.  Substitution Angelos Charisteas scored the winning goal in the 84th minute.

Paul Stalteri played rightback for 90 minutes.
