Werder Bremen 0 Inter Milan 2
|
 |

Werder Bremen were forced to play from the 5th minute
with 10 men after Valerin Ismael was sent off for a
"professional foul". Christian Vieri was unable to
convert the resulting penalty shot.
Inter
was awarded a second penalty shot by the referee in the
34th minute. Brazilian Adriano converted the spot
kick and later sealed the win for Inter in the 89th
minute.
Werder played a solid match, but in the end were unable
to overcome the disadvantage of playing with a man down
for 85 minutes.
Paul
Stalteri played 90 minutes in his first ever Champions
League match. He started the match playing
leftback and later switched to the right after 36
minutes when captain Frank Baumann left the game due to
injury. The coach was forced to shuffle the team
after losing two defensive players in the early stages
of the match.
"It
was too bad that we didn't have a fair chance to match
up against them for a full 90 minutes with 11 men, the
result might have been different."
Werder will face Valencia in Bremen on Wednesday
September 29th, 2004.
